The 311 Jennings Street Office Building Renovations consisted of interior and exterior renovations of an antiquated building, previously housing government offices, located in the South side of Tallahassee, Florida. Designed by Rolando J. Gutierrez, Architects, these renovations modernized and brightened the building’s interior and exterior appearances, infusing new life into the existing structure in order to convert it into the Home Offices for two construction companies, Whitley Contracting, Inc. and Burnette Construction. The existing building’s exterior was renovated to depict these builder’s commitment to quality construction in Tallahassee, Florida, to depict the financial strength and permanence of both companies, to demonstrate their dexterity with the use of different materials and finally, to convey the innovative and progressive attitude of their owners.
The exterior changes began with the exposure of the building’s existing curved roof, originally hidden behind an imposing and heavy front wall which was carved by the Architects to expose the playful and elegant curved roof lines and its existing curved structural members. The addition of a open Conference Room in the most visible exterior corner lighted the interior with natural light which evoked an invitation to potential visitors with a teasing revelation of the richness of the interior space. The Architects also carved the exterior walls in the front to provide pedestrian cover and to ‘reveal’ the building entrances. The use of color reinforced the new playful spatial geometry and provided visual interior circulation queues for visitors throughout the interior. Vaulted interior ceilings above select gathering areas further reinforce the exterior curved roof lines. Other interior changes consisted of radical renovations of both private and public areas including the Lobby, Conference Rooms, Offices, Gallery, Vault, Lounge, Kitchen, Exercise Room, Hallways, Men and Women Restrooms and Shower, Storage and Mechanical \ Electrical rooms.
Additionally, the building’s surroundings were improved with covered pedestrian access to building entrances enhanced with landscaping to beautify the urban streetscape. The exterior was properly lighted to provide visibility for personnel security day or night, and to present to the public an elegant corporate image of the company. |
