PROJECT INFORMATION

The project was a new home in St. George Island, Florida for a retired US Air Force Colonel. Many unusual features dictated the home’s architectural style. One of these features consisted of the roof plan matching the geometry of a B-2 Stealth Bomber Aircraft when seen from above while resembling a Spanish Villa from eye level. The home was cited carefully in the wooded property to maximize visibility of the sea, and nourish the Owners’ love for nature with extensive window exposure of the existing site’s flora, fauna and scenic beauty.

Arrival occurs through a paved curved drive ending at exterior steps leading into an ample deck/porch and through a shallow fountain with scattered pavers providing the footpath to the main doorway.  The foundations consisted of reinforced split faced concrete block, better suited to the Spanish image than concrete piles commonly seen in coastal homes. Other exterior materials used were stucco, insulated glass, wood and clay shingles. The lower level includes parking, a cooking station, a fish cleaning gazebo and a large open courtyard flanked by the building wings and shrubbery. The main level was divided as follow: Living Room, Gallery, Dining area, sunken Kitchen, Den with a half Bathroom, Aviary, Exercise Room, Guest Bedroom with a full Bathroom, and Closets, all flanked by an exterior covered porch overlooking the courtyard below, and the sea.  The upper level is reached by a featured circular wood staircase, leading to the Master Bedroom and Bathroom, and balconies looking into the interior lower level of the house and into the Gulf of Mexico.  The roof, exterior walls and floors were well insulated. Mechanical and electrical systems were designed using sophisticated fixtures and components. Glass block, drywall, carpet, tile and wood materials were used in the interior areas.
